Men’s soccer signs local talent Shay Scarff
(Saint John, NB) Shay Scarff has officially signed with the Seawolves soccer program for the 2025 varsity season.
"Shay brings a positive attitude and willing to learn, which will be a huge asset to our program over the next four years. His technical ability and calmness on the ball allow him to control the game and make smart decisions under pressure, said head coach PJ Ward.
Scarff has been playing soccer since the age of four, starting with Fundy Soccer in the Timbits League. From there, he played at various levels, including house, U13AAA, U15AAA, and U17AAA, and continues to play in the New Brunswick Premier Soccer League (NBPSL) with Fundy.
"Soccer has always been a top priority in my life alongside academics. It continues to teach me the true skills of leadership, teamwork, and perseverance, and has taught me that success comes in many other ways than just winning," said Scarff.
His dedication to both sport and academics is evident through his accolades. He was a consistently high-honours student throughout his four years of high school. He received the "Heart of the Team" award at the 2024 South Shore United U18 Showcase. This award is given to the player who gives it their all, is respectful, engaging, and positive to a fault. Their drive, determination, and spirit inspire their team to reach for greatness!"
Outside of soccer, Scarff enjoys playing badminton competitively. He received the boys' MVP award at St. Malachy's during his Grade 10 year, placed fifth at provincials in singles, and earned a gold medal in mixed doubles at an Atlantic Canada Series tournament. "Badminton is a fun sport that helps me stay well-conditioned throughout the off-season and also contributes to my game with its quick footwork and explosiveness," said Scarff.
Scarff will pursue a Bachelor of Health in Biomedical Sciences, with a goal to work in healthcare and find a perfect career fit during his undergraduate years.
Welcome to the Seawolves family, Shay!
