Seawolves fall short after close battle with Dragons
(Saint John, NB) The UNB Saint John Seawolves (12-2) were defeated by the USA (14-3) in a four-set battle, losing 8-25, 24-26, 23-25, 17-25. While the Seawolves showed flashes of brilliance, they were ultimately outpaced by USTA's strong offensive performance.
The opening set saw UNB Saint John struggle to keep up with USA's powerful attacks and precise serving, with the visitors easily taking the set 25-8. In the second set, the Seawolves showed resilience, challenging USTA throughout and forcing them into a tight 24-26 finish. Liam Pelletier and David Valencia contributed key points at the net, while Gabe Powell and William Siefker stepped up offensively to give the Seawolves some momentum.
Despite a spirited effort in the third set, which ended 23-25 in favor of USTA, UNB Saint John was unable to break through the visitors' defense. USA's strong serving, combined with timely kills from their offense, kept the Seawolves at bay. The fourth set saw the match come to a close as USA took control with a 25-17 win, securing the victory.
While the Seawolves fell short in this matchup, they displayed plenty of grit and determination, with key performances from Liam Pelletier, David Valencia, and Gabe Powell. The team will now focus on regrouping and preparing for their upcoming challenges as the season heads into its final stages.
