Seawolves Sweep Crandall in Commanding Home Performance
Saint John, NB — The UNB Saint John Seawolves men's volleyball team delivered one of its most complete efforts of the season Sunday afternoon, defeating the Crandall University Chargers in straight sets at the G. Forbes Elliot Athletic Centre, winning 25–18, 25–6, 25–12.
UNBSJ established control early in the opening set, using disciplined offense and steady defensive coverage to build separation late. The Seawolves elevated their level in the second set, overwhelming Crandall with aggressive serving and efficient attacking to limit the Chargers to just six points while hitting .500 as a team in the frame.
The momentum continued into the third, where UNBSJ dictated play at the net and in transition. With contributions across the lineup, the Seawolves closed out the sweep while holding Crandall to a .090 hitting percentage for the match.
William Siefker (Hamilton, ON) paced the Seawolves with nine and a half points, recording four kills and five service aces to spark UNBSJ from the service line. Jackson Ramier (Fredericton, NB) directed the offense with 15 assists while adding two service aces, helping the Seawolves maintain a .340 team hitting percentage. Cameron Willis (Fredericton, NB) was highly efficient with four kills on six attempts and contributed defensively at the net, while Adam Gauthier (Regina, SK) added five kills and three total blocks in a strong all-around performance.
At the net, UNBSJ's presence was a defining factor. Gabe Powell (Rothesay, NB), who leads the ACAA in blocks per set this season, anchored the Seawolves' defensive front, and the team finished with 14 block assists to disrupt Crandall's attack. Serving pressure also proved decisive, as the Seawolves totaled 13 service aces and consistently forced the Chargers out of system.
Crandall was led by Francois Benoit with seven kills, but struggled to generate sustained offense against the Seawolves' organized defense and serve pressure.
The win improves UNBSJ to 7–7 on the season and extends its winning streak to three matches. The Seawolves now sit third in the ACAA standings with 14 points, strengthening their position in the playoff race as the regular season moves into its final stretch.
