Logan Gerber Brings Size and Defensive Strength to Seawolves
(Saint John, NB) The University of New Brunswick Saint John Seawolves men’s volleyball program is proud to announce the commitment of Logan Gerber, a 6’5” left side hitter whose mobility, defensive mindset, and high-performance experience make him an exciting addition to the Seawolves roster. Originally from London, Ontario, and now calling Enfield, Nova Scotia, home Gerber will graduate from Hants East Rural High School this spring and arrive in Saint John ready to compete and develop at the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association level.
Gerber first connected with the Seawolves early in the season, and the coaching staff had previously seen him compete at the Nova Scotia provincials. Several current players who had shared club experience with him spoke highly of both his character and competitiveness, reinforcing the strong impression he made during his campus visit and practice. “I was very impressed with how mobile he is,” said Seawolves head coach Dino Karatzios. “At 6’5”, he moves extremely well. He plays left side, and it took only a few minutes to see that he can pass at a strong level. We knew he could hit and reach high, but with our defense-first mentality, it was great to see that mindset already ingrained. When he came for a visit, it was clear he would be a great fit for our program. He thrives in a competitive environment, and those are qualities we value highly on our team.”
Gerber’s volleyball journey began in sixth grade after years of playing hockey, and he quickly developed a passion for the sport. His club career began with the Durham Rebels, and he spent the past four seasons with the Bedford Blizzard. Last season, his 17U team competed up in the 18U division and finished fourth in the province, himself earning provincial All-Star recognition. At the high school level, he has been a four-year varsity player at Hants East Rural High School, serving as both team captain and MVP in his grade eleven and twelve seasons. His leadership stood out particularly as he helped guide newer players and set a competitive standard within the program.
Gerber has represented Nova Scotia on the provincial team for the past two years, participated in the Provincial Excellence Program, and, most recently, was selected for the Nova Scotia Canada Games Team. Academically, he has maintained a high average and earned honour roll recognition throughout high school, demonstrating the discipline and commitment that define his approach both on and off the court. “He’s going to give us added depth and height on the left side,” Karatzios added. “There’s no doubt he will become a key contributor to our team in the future. Our plan is to continue developing him, help him get stronger, and provide him with the opportunities needed to become one of the top left sides in the league over the next few years.”
For Gerber, volleyball has provided more than competition. Moving provinces at age 13, the sport gave him a sense of belonging and community, helping him build meaningful relationships and develop resilience. “I loved the intensity of the practice and how welcoming everyone was,” Gerber said of his visit to Saint John. “When I toured the campus, I could really see myself becoming part of the UNBSJ community. I’m excited to grow as a player and push myself every day.”
Gerber will enroll in the Bachelor of Business Administration program, with aspirations of one day opening his own business. On the court, his goals are clear: continue developing physically, improve his consistency, and maintain steady competitive energy in every situation. With his size, mobility, defensive instincts, and leadership foundation, Logan Gerber adds immediate depth and long-term potential to the Seawolves lineup.
Welcome to the Seawolves family, Logan.
