Seawolves women’s basketball falls to Hurricanes
(Saint John, NB) The UNB Saint John Seawolves were set to take on the Holland College Hurricanes to kick off the Seawolves' annual Think Pink Weekend in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
The Hurricanes set the tone early, firing shots from the outside. Lauren Armstrong led the charge for Holland, scoring 7 points in the first few minutes, prompting the Seawolves to call an early timeout.
Nykeva Brown contributed 9 points while Llorena Prekaj added four for the Seawolves. The Seawolves staged a comeback in the second quarter, outscoring the Hurricanes 25-15 with timely defence and drives to the basket. By halftime, Holland's lead had narrowed to 40-34.
Holland came out strong after halftime with a 10-0 run, widening their lead. Avrey Alward responded for the Seawolves with consecutive baskets, stopping Holland's momentum.
However, the Hurricanes couldn't be stopped, and the quarter ended with Holland maintaining the lead.
In the final quarter, Holland maintained their dominance and closed out the game with a final score of 70-49.
With this win, Holland improved their season record to 8-2, while the Seawolves dropped to 1-9. Both teams will meet again tomorrow at 1 p.m. at UNB Saint John.
