4th Quarter Surge Not Enough to Propel Seawolves Against Mounties
(Saint John, NB) UNB Saint John came up just short at home in a tightly contested battle, falling 66–64 to Mount Allison University in a game defined by rebounding, momentum swings, and late-game execution.
Mount Allison established control early, building a first-quarter cushion and leaning heavily on Danielle Alexander, who delivered one of the most complete performances of the night. She finished with 14 points and a game-high 13 rebounds, repeatedly extending possessions and scoring through contact inside. Sadie Bowen added 13 points and was crucial during Mount A's early scoring runs, while Grace Tilley chipped in 14 points, including key perimeter shots that helped the visitors answer UNBSJ pushes. Nora Miller also gave Mount Allison valuable minutes, scoring 11 points off the bench and hitting timely threes that kept the offence moving.
Despite the early deficit, UNBSJ steadily worked their way back into the game. Laura Prekaj led the home side with 16 points, knocking down four three-pointers while also contributing 10 rebounds, three assists, and three steals in a strong two-way effort. Avrey Alward added 12 points and five assists, helping create offensive looks, while Maddie Baker matched her with 12 points off the bench, including a clutch fourth-quarter three that brought UNBSJ within striking distance. Ainsley Green battled on the glass with 11 rebounds, giving UNBSJ second chances and defensive stops when they needed them most.
The fourth quarter featured multiple lead threats from UNBSJ, who cut the margin to two in the final minute. However, Mount Allison's rebounding edge and ability to convert key late possessions proved decisive. Alexander's interior presence and a late basket helped close it out, as Mount Allison escaped with the narrow road win in the Think Pink game that stayed competitive until the final seconds.
