Seawolves Win the Middle Quarters to Take Weekend Sweep Over UKC, 70–57
On February 8, the University of New Brunswick Saint John Seawolves transformed a one-point game after ten minutes into a commanding 70–57 victory over the University of King's College in Saint John.
The first quarter was messy but physical, with both teams trading turnovers and battling for extra possessions. UNB Saint John leaned on offensive rebounds early, and Avrey Alward got the Seawolves on the board first before repeatedly attacking the lane. UKC hung around with energy on the glass and a late bucket to make it 13–12 after one.
The separation started in the second. The Seawolves tightened up defensively, forced giveaways, and cashed in with timely makes from Ava Sprague, including a three that helped stretch the lead. Ainsley Green continued to dominate inside and secure the defensive glass, while UNB Saint John led at halftime 36–26.
The third quarter set the tone for the finish. Maddie Baker knocked down two threes in the period, and Green answered with a triple of her own as the Seawolves kept UKC from building any real momentum. UNB Saint John won the quarter 23–16 to take a 59–42 lead into the fourth.
UKC pushed late with threes from Kai Raphael, but the Seawolves managed it with stops, rebounds, and a few key finishes around the rim from Green to keep the margin steady down the stretch.
Green and Alward led UNB Saint John with 20 points apiece. Green added 12 rebounds, while Alward filled the stat sheet with 11 rebounds and eight assists. Baker and Sprague chipped in 11 points each. For UKC, Maddalena Webb led the way with 17 points, and Sydney Flora-Kirsch battled for 15 rebounds.
