Dion-Wright Marks First Recruit For Women's Basketball
The University of New Brunswick Saint John Seawolves Women’s Basketball team is pleased to announce the commitment of Kyleigh Dion-Wright for the 2026-27 season.
Originally from Quispamsis, Dion-Wright is a 2026 graduate of Kennebecasis Valley High School and will join the Seawolves as a talented guard, bringing a strong combination of skill, competitiveness, and leadership to the program. Having played basketball since kindergarten, Dion-Wright has developed into a versatile player capable of impacting the game in a variety of ways on both ends of the floor. Throughout her basketball career, she has earned several MVP, All-Star, and Player of the Game honours while consistently establishing herself as a key contributor and leader within her teams.
In addition to her athletic success, Dion-Wright has also excelled academically. She earned High Honours recognition during Grade 11 and was the recipient of the Kennies Award for basketball at KVHS, recognizing both her performance and dedication to the sport. Her ability to balance athletics and academics reflects the work ethic and commitment that the Seawolves coaching staff values highly within the program.
“Kyleigh is a skilled point guard who loves playing basketball,” said the Seawolves coaching staff. “She can score from the perimeter or take it to the hoop and draw the foul. She sees the floor well and can distribute the ball to open teammates, but she also looks for opportunities to score on her own. She has a competitive nature with a strong desire to win.” The coaching staff also highlighted her strong ball handling ability, offensive versatility, and willingness to continue improving her game as qualities that will make her a strong addition to the Seawolves lineup moving forward.
For Dion-Wright, basketball has always been about more than competition alone. She says she loves the high-energy nature of the game, the intensity that comes with competing, and the relationships that are built through being part of a team environment. Her passion for basketball continues to push her to improve her skills, learn new aspects of the game, and compete to the best of her abilities each time she steps on the court.
Away from basketball, Dion-Wright enjoys spending time outdoors, going to the beach, swimming, scenic drives, bonfires, and spending time with family and friends. She also has a strong passion for helping others and giving back to her community. During her years with Surge Basketball, she participated in community initiatives that included helping serve meals to individuals experiencing homelessness and assisting with youth basketball camps for younger athletes. Those experiences played a major role in shaping her future goals and helped inspire her desire to work with children in the future.
At UNB Saint John, Dion-Wright plans to begin a Bachelor of Arts degree before continuing into Education with the goal of becoming an elementary school teacher. She says choosing UNB Saint John allowed her the opportunity to continue both her education and basketball career while remaining close to home and connected to her community.
The Seawolves are excited to welcome Kyleigh to Saint John and look forward to the impact she will make within the program both on and off the court over the coming years.
