Seawolves make it back-to-back wins to cap off the weekend at home
(Saint John, NB) The UNB Saint John Seawolves (12-2) showcased their dominance in a straight-sets victory over the Université Sainte-Anne Dragons (0-14), winning 25-15, 25-17, 26-24. The Seawolves delivered a well-rounded performance, extending their strong season and solidifying their status as league contenders.
In the opening set, the Seawolves set the tone with powerful serves (8 aces) and sharp attacks, led by Emily Robichaud's nine kills (.333 hitting percentage). Sydney Flower was flawless at the net, going 5-for-5 on attacks for a perfect 1.000 hitting percentage, while Dominique Gendron contributed seven kills and two aces. UNB Saint John's defence and consistency overwhelmed the Dragons, who couldn't find an answer to the Seawolves' offensive firepower.
The Dragons showed more fight in the second and third sets, with Kyana Brideau (12 kills) and Jacqueline Bright (4 kills, .800 hitting percentage) leading their charge. However, the Seawolves' depth and poise prevailed, with key contributions from Kate McLeod (6 kills, 8 digs) and Gendron, who sealed critical points in the final set to secure the 26-24 win with an ace.
UNB Saint John's strong performance, highlighted by Flower's perfect attacking and Robichaud's offensive leadership, and dual setter threat in Quigley and Carey demonstrated why they are a force to be reckoned with as playoffs approach. With their 12th win of the season, the Seawolves continue to build momentum heading into the final stretch.
