Seawolves Sweep Dal in Statement Win at Home
(Saint John, NB) The UNBSJ Seawolves put together one of their sharpest matches of the season on Saturday afternoon, sweeping the Dalhousie Rams 3–0 (25–22, 25–21, 25–20) at the G. Forbes Elliot Athletics Centre. Both teams entered the match at 5–1, but UNBSJ controlled the flow from the opening rallies and never allowed Dal to build sustained momentum.
UNBSJ opened the match with an efficient first set, hitting .419 while passing cleanly and turning transition chances into points. Dal responded with a better rhythm in the second set, extending rallies and finding more production through the middle of their lineup. Even with the Rams' improved tempo, UNBSJ closed the door late in both the first and second frames with timely kills and strong serving runs.
UNBSJ's offence was steady across all positions. Dominique Gendron led the way with 12 kills on .333 while adding two aces and two blocks. Kate McLeod delivered 10 kills on a .500 hitting percentage, and Emily Robichaud added 9 kills and three aces, continuing to be one of UNBSJ's most reliable two-phase players. In the middle, Sasha Buchanan finished with 6 kills on .455, and Haley Wilson added another efficient outing at .600.
Setter Kyra McCord guided the attack with 31 assists, distributing the offence evenly and keeping Dal's block off balance. Defensively, Robichaud's 16 digs anchored a backcourt group that covered tips and recycled balls well throughout.
Dal had several strong individual performances despite the straight-set result. Maryn McCoombs and Callie Immerkar carried much of the offensive load, combining for 14 kills while also putting in significant defensive work. McCoombs added 13 digs, Rideout chipped in 8 kills of her own, and Dal's serving created pressure at times, including a four-ace match from Immerkar. Setter Leah Jollimore also contributed steady ball movement with 13 assists. The Rams posted a .196 hitting percentage overall, with their best stretch coming in the second set where they hit .274 and pushed UNBSJ deep into long rallies.
The win moves UNBSJ to 6–1 on the season and stands out as one of their most complete, composed performances to date, especially against a Dal team that has been strong out of the gate this year.
