Seawolves make a statement in 104–88 win over MSVU
(Saint John, NB) The UNBSJ Seawolves opened their season in style on Sunday, defeating the MSVU Mystics 104–88 in a high-energy rematch of last year's ACAA championship game. From the opening tip, the Seawolves looked locked in pushing the pace, moving the ball, and hitting shots from all over the floor to grab a 29–23 lead after the first quarter.
Daren Clarke led the charge with a spectacular 31-point performance, shooting an efficient 11-for-15 and showing why he's one of the conference's toughest guards to defend. Aj Nash was equally impressive, adding 22 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists in a steady two-way outing that kept UNBSJ in control throughout.
MSVU hung around behind the efforts of Adam Callaghan (23 points) and Isaiah Cromwell-Wright (21 points), but the Seawolves' balanced attack and outside shooting proved too much. UNBSJ knocked down 12 threes and shot 52% from the floor, with key contributions from Doyle Burton (11 points) and Ethan Szemerda (13 points, 8 rebounds).
The win not only gives UNBSJ a 1–0 start to the season but also a measure of confidence after last year's title, a statement that the Seawolves are ready to run it back.
