Seawolves Outlast Rams in Four-Set Battle at Home
(Saint John, NB) The UNBSJ Seawolves earned a hard-fought 3–1 win over the Rams on Saturday afternoon (25–10, 23–25, 25–8, 26–24), moving to 3–4 on the season and putting together their strongest all-around performance so far. The match featured big momentum swings, but UNBSJ's serving pressure and ability to finish tight sets proved to be the difference.
UNBSJ opened the match with a dominant first set, taking early control from the service line and holding the Rams to just 10 points. The Rams answered well in the second, tightening their defence and capitalizing on Seawolves errors to take the set 25–23.
The Seawolves responded with a statement third set, hitting .440 as a team and controlling the rhythm from start to finish. The Rams pushed again in the fourth, keeping the scoreboard tight, but UNBSJ closed strong to take the match 26–24.
UNBSJ's offence was led by Adam Gauthier and Jacob Huisman, who both finished with 15 kills. Huisman hit .400 and added three blocks, while Gauthier contributed two aces and consistent scoring through long rallies. Setter Jackson Ramier directed the attack with 42 assists and added five kills of his own.
Cameron Willis brought high energy all afternoon and delivered when it mattered, finishing with five kills and three blocks. His presence at the net gave UNBSJ a noticeable spark, especially during the late stages of the fourth set. Jordan Apostolofski added six kills off the bench, and Craig Bartlett chipped in four efficient swings on eight attempts. Gabe Powell also contributed important blocking touches that helped shift momentum back toward UNBSJ.
The Rams put together strong individual efforts as well. George Howe and Orson di Rosa combined for 13 kills, while Alastair Stockdale added another six. Setter Dan Pettipas led the team with 17 assists and 20 digs, keeping rallies alive under pressure. The Rams' best stretches came in the second set and late in the fourth, where their serving pressure and defensive hustle kept them within reach.
With the win, UNBSJ picks up valuable momentum as they continue working toward an early-season turnaround.
