Seawolves Hold Off Hurricanes to Improve to 2–0
(Saint John, NB) UNBSJ picked up their second straight win of the season with a 3–1 victory over Holland College, taking the match 25–23, 21–25, 25–16, 25–23 at the G. Forbes Elliot Athletic Centre. Emily Robichaud led the Seawolves with 12 kills and 15 digs, while Kate McLeod added 10 kills and strong defensive coverage on the right side. Haley Wilson continued to be a presence at the net and the service line with six kills and four aces, and setter Lauren Gulliver ran the offense with 28 assists, keeping UNBSJ balanced throughout the afternoon.
The backcourt was a major difference-maker, with libero Sophia Saad and defensive specialist Amy MacKenzie both playing standout matches. Their ball control and digging under pressure allowed UNBSJ to stay in system late in sets and turn long rallies into scoring opportunities, especially in the third and fourth frames. Holland pushed throughout, led by outside hitter Jenna O'Neill who finished with 12 kills and was a constant scoring option. Morgan Hoskins added six kills and five aces, creating momentum swings and forcing UNBSJ to adjust defensively. The Hurricanes challenged in the second and fourth sets, extending points and applying pressure at the net.
UNBSJ's late-set composure and ability to convert in transition made the difference, helping the Seawolves close the match and move to 2–0 to start the season.
